Merlot
2009
Background
Made exclusively with grapes from our vineyard in Okanagan
Centre. The vines are planted on very coarse, rocky,
gravelly soil that would be unsuitable for most agricultural
crops but is ideal for premium grapes. The Merlot vines
produce their best fruit when they are grown in soils like this
- naturally setting a low crop and focusing their energy on
ripening the fruit as opposed to sprawling with excessive plant
growth. The grapes are usually the last to be harvested,
allowing them to ripen and develop flavour until late fall.
Tasting Notes
One
year in American oak has developed rich, toasty, cedar notes
over dried fruit, raspberry and blackcurrant aromas. Mellow yet
complex, this wine can be enjoyed now or benefit from careful
cellaring.
Food Pairing
Serve with braised chicken, lamb, stew and strong cheeses.
