Wildblume: Our First Ever Sparkling Wine

Posted June 3, 2017

Wildblume, or wildflower in German, is our first ever sparkling wine. It is made using the charmat method (méthode cuvée close) which is widely used to make Prosecco wines in Italy. This method creates bubbles by means of a secondary fermentation inside a closed tank. The tank keeps the pressure in and produces fruit-forward sparkling wines that are uncomplicated and fun.

Tasting Notes
Clean, fresh, floral, honeydew and lemon aromas. On the palate it is light and lively, with lingering floral and lemon aromas. This is the perfect wine for an outdoor lunch, as an aperitif before dinner or for a celebration at any time.

Icewine Review

Posted February 25, 2017

Our first ever Icewine received 92 points from wine critic David Lawrason, WineAlign.

"This very sweet, very silky and delicate Icewine weighs in at 10.3% alcohol, thankfully low. The aromas and flavours are loaded with peach/pear fruit, lemon blossom, honey and fine evergreen. It's full bodied, thick and viscous but also quite refined. The length is excellent to outstanding." Tasted February 2017.

Wine to watch: Quiet-restraint-meets-richness-and-depth 2014 Solstice Pinot Noir

In 1996, Joe and Margrit Zuppiger sold their 10-year old Alberta dairy farm and purchased 16 acres in Lake Country just North of Kelowna. The Family planted vines and built a small winery, while son Manuel studied winemaking in their home country of Switzerland, opening a modest room open to the public in 2003. From the first vintage of 1,000 cases to their current 15,000 cases per year, the original acreage now includes one leased vineyard and a long term buying contract from a neighbor. In 2015 they built a new, modern tasting room and barrel cellar to keep up with demand for their wines. Joe runs the vineyard. Margrit the office, and Manuel the cellar.

Manuel's depth of knowledge is hidden beneath a friendly modesty. After 15 years and even with increased production, he still works the cellar with only one fulltime assistant and a small seasonal crew at vintage. In the summer, his sisters (Karin and Janine) return from Montreal and Vancouver to run the new bistro that overlooks Lake Okanagan. Aromatic white wines and delicately layered reds anchor a portfolio that provides a beautiful expression of the diligent and consistent work of this unassuming family.

Arrowleaf judged the number two winery in Canada at The Nationals

Posted August 5, 2015

The WineAlign National Wine Awards of Canada is this country's most comprehensive and reputable wine competition. Highly respected judges blind-tasted 1408 wines from 205 wineries and awarded platinum, gold, silver and bronze medals. Based on each winery's performance, they compiled a list of this year's top 25 wineries in Canada. We are thrilled to have won 5 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals, making us the number two winery in Canada! We have made it into the top 25 before, but being so close to the top is an achievement we are very proud of. Congratulations to the winery of the year, Mission Hill Family Estate, and to everyone who made the top 25.
