Zweigelt 2006 Background Pronounced 'ts-vi-gelt' this 1922 Blaufränkisch X St. Laurent crossing was pioneered by Dr. Zweigelt of Austria. It has since rapidly gained in popularity and is now Austria's most widely planted red grape. There has been interest here as well and Canada might just become its home away from home. The growing conditions of the Okanagan are ideal for this grape. Tasting Notes This is a very darkly colored, fruit-forward wine with an intense cherry and raspberry nose. The taste is medium to full-bodied with a flavourful finish. Food Paring Pair with tomato-sauce based pastas, barbequed meats and vegetables or strong cheeses. Awards Silver - 2008 All Canadian Wine Championships Technical Information
