Zweigelt
2008
Background
Pronounced
'ts-vi-gelt' this 1922 Blaufränkisch X St.
Laurent crossing was pioneered by Dr. Zweigelt of Austria. It
has since rapidly gained in popularity and is now Austria's most
widely planted red grape. There has been interest here as well
and Canada might just become its home away from home. The
growing conditions of the Okanagan are ideal for this grape.
Tasting
Notes
This is a darkly colored wine with
cherry, raspberry and spicy aromas. The taste is medium to
full-bodied with rich fruit and vanilla oak flavours lingering
on the finish.
Food
Paring Suggestions
Pair with
tomato-sauce based pastas, barbequed meats and vegetables or
strong cheeses.
