Pinot Noir 2017

Pinot Noir 2017

From the excellent 2017 vintage, this Pinot Noir was grown in Wendell and Ritchie Vineyards, both located in Lake Country. The growing season started out with a wet spring but it soon turned hot and dry in the summer and it continued that way into fall. Yields were down and the grapes were ripe and concentrated. Fermentation took place in multiple batches, most were inoculated with yeast and others were left to go wild. The wine went to mostly neutral barrels soon after fermentation and stayed there for 9 months, with an occasional racking done to gradually remove the lees.

Tasting Notes
Rich strawberry, cranberry and raspberry aromas combine with subtle notes of leather and earth. This Pinot Noir has a rich, silky texture and interesting complexity. Recommended food pairings are chicken, duck, wild mushroom risotto or Gruyere cheese.

Gold - 2019 National Wine Awards of Canada

Critic Reviews
”92 POINTS: Lots of finesse on this subtle yet highly complex Pinot Noir. The nose offers discreet nuances of cranberry, wild strawberry, tea leaf and earth. The palate is crisp and light, with lovely powdery tannins and a vibrant, lengthy finish.” - Jacky Blisson, WineAlign 2019

“90 POINTS: Full and savoury pinot noir, charged, dried fruit leathery yet quite fresh and extensive. Has it all carried in pocket; fruit, acid, tension, tannin and confidence. Drink 2020-2026.” - Michael Godel, WineAlign 2019
