Archive Reserve 2022
90 Points, Silver Medal Winner at the 2025 National Wine Awards of Canada
What it is
Archive Reserve is a bold, structured red wine made with Merlot grapes grown in our estate vineyard.
Where it was grown
Arrowleaf Estate, Lake Country, Okanagan Valley
When it was grown
The story of the 2022 growing season started with a blast of arctic air in late December 2021. The cold weather damaged some buds on the vines, reducing their potential yields. The spring was cool and damp, which delayed budbreak and suggested it was going to be a short growing season. Summer was hot and dry but the highlight of the growing season was the fall, which felt more like an extension of summer. It was a phenomenal stretch of warm and dry weather that lasted through most of October. The extended season coupled with low yields produced grapes of excellent quality.
How it was made
Merlot from the steepest part of our estate vineyard was picked at optimal ripeness. The vineyard has coarse, rocky soil and the grapes always have a high degree of colour and tannin for Merlot. The wine was aged in French oak barrels for 18 months before a light filtration and bottling.
How it tastes
The bouquet features dark cherry, blueberry and licorice root. On the palate it is elegant and with rich fruit, well integrated tannins with notes of oak and butterscotch on the finish. 🌱 Vegan Wine
