Chardonnay 2023
Release Date: May 10, 2025
What it is
A single-vineyard, lightly oaked, cool-climate Chardonnay from the Lake Country Sub-GI
Where it was grown
Wendell Vineyard, Lake Country, Okanagan Valley
This vineyard is located on the lower slopes of the Carr’s Landing area in Lake Country, which features sandy loam as well as some clay loam soils.
When it was grown
The 2023 growing season brought extreme weather and a small crop of grapes. It started in December of 2022 when an outbreak of arctic air damaged many of the fruitful buds on our grapevines. Spring was cool and dry and then summer arrived to deliver one of the hottest and driest growing seasons on record. A few vines collapsed in the heat while most set a small crop of concentrated grapes. Ripening sped along through August and our entire harvest was condensed into the month of September.
How it was made
The grapes were gently whole-cluster pressed to preserve acidity and freshness. The juice was fermented slowly in temperature-controlled stainless tanks before being transferred to French oak puncheons (15% new) for nine months of aging. The wine spent an additional six months in bottle before release.
How it tastes
This wine features aromas of pear, white blossom, banana and custard. On the palate it presents as a smooth, medium-bodied wine with well-integrated acidity and a light note of toasted oak on the finish. 🌱 Vegan Wine
