Chardonnay 2024 (Moon Series)
What it is
Moon Series wines are crafted from grapes sourced outside of British Columbia. Following devastating crop losses in our home province in 2024, importing fruit allowed us to both address the shortfall and explore new possibilities.
Where it was grown
The grapes were grown at Grimsby Hillside Vineyard in the Lincoln Lakeshore sub-appellation of Ontario’s Niagara Peninsula.
When it was grown
The 2024 growing season in Niagara began with a mild winter and an early spring, with budbreak in Lincoln Lakeshore occurring up to two weeks earlier than average. Warm, humid summer conditions required careful canopy management and fruit thinning to maintain vine balance. A dry, sunny finish to the season provided ideal conditions for Chardonnay to achieve full ripeness while retaining its natural freshness.
How it was made
The grapes were pressed in Ontario before the juice was chilled and transported to British Columbia, where fermentation took place in our cellar. The wine was then aged for nine months in 500 L French oak puncheons, with a portion undergoing malolactic fermentation to enhance texture and complexity.
How it tastes
Aromas of ripe peach, apricot, nutmeg, and vanilla lead into a dry palate with fresh acidity and a creamy texture. Subtle notes of oak and baking spice linger through a long, balanced finish.
