Moonstruck 2024 (Moon Series)
What it is
Moon Series wines are made from grapes sourced outside of British Columbia. 2024 was a year of devastating crop losses in our own province. Importing grapes was a way for us to cover the shortfall and try something new.
Where it was grown
This blend of Merlot, Malbec and Cabernet Franc is grown in the Yakima Valley of Washington State - our closest grape growing neighbour.
When it was grown
The 2024 vintage in Yakima also saw some of the cold temperatures early in the winter that we experienced in BC. The harvest was smaller due to some freeze damage. The cool weather persisted into spring, causing a later than normal start to the growing season. Things turned around in summer which was hot and dry. The ideal weather continued into September and October, creating perfect conditions for ripening the grapes.
How it was made
Each component was fermented and aged separately before we determined the final blend of 44% Merlot, 37% Malbec and 19% Cabernet Franc. The aging period lasted for 12 months in French, Eastern European and American oak barrels.
How it tastes
Notes of cherry, blackberry, licorice and mint highlight this medium-bodied red blend. Merlot provides the mid-palate cushion, Malbec adds freshness and vibrancy and Cabernet Franc adds savoury herbs.
