Riesling 2024
What it is
Riesling is one of the world’s noble white wine grapes, known for its precise aromatics, minerality and high acidity. When it’s grown in the extreme climate of the Okanagan Valley, the results are amplified.
Where it was grown
Ritchie Vineyard, BCVQA Okanagan Valley – Lake Country
When it was grown
The 2024 vintage is one that mostly wasn’t. An arctic outflow event in mid-January caused temperatures to plummet to -25.5°C in our vineyards. Most of the fruitful buds on the vines were destroyed and a lot of vines died as a result. Some varieties fared better than others, and we were able to harvest a small crop of locally grown grapes. The growing season itself was on the cool side and the grapes retained a high degree of natural acidity. We spent much of the growing season rehabilitating our vines and getting them ready for a more fruitful vintage in 2025.
How it was made
Harvested late in October, the Riesling grapes came into the winery with plenty of natural acidity and sweetness. Fermentation took place in stainless steel and lasted well over a month until the desired level of residual sugar was reached. After a brief aging and stabilization period, the wine was bottled in early spring to retain its vibrancy and freshness.
How it tastes
Aromas of pineapple, lime, pine needle and slate highlight this zesty and brisk-tasting wine. The balance of sugar and acidity is off-dry, giving the wine a cushion of sweetness before the acidity cuts through and lingers on the finish. The wine is rich in extract, giving it weight, minerality and setting it up to age for many years to come. 🌱 Vegan Wine
