Wildblume 2024

CA$26.10

Release Date: October 31, 2025

What it is: Wildblume—meaning wildflower in German—is named after the Arrowleaf Balsamroot flowers that grow on the hills of the Okanagan Valley each spring. This refreshing brut sparkling wine is made with Riesling, Chardonnay and Vidal grapes using the charmat method (méthode cuvée close).

Where it was grown:
BCVQA Okanagan Valley – Lake Country (Vineyards: Wendell and Arrowleaf Estate)

When it was grown: The 2024 vintage is one that mostly wasn’t. An arctic outflow event in mid-January caused temperatures to plummet to -25.5°C in our vineyards. Most of the fruitful buds on the vines were destroyed and a lot of vines died as a result. Some varieties fared better than others and we were able to harvest a small crop of locally grown grapes. The growing season itself was on the cool side and the grapes retained a high degree of natural acidity. We spent much of the growing season rehabilitating our vines and getting them ready for a more fruitful vintage ahead.

How it was made: Riesling and Chardonnay from Wendell Vineyard were combined with Vidal from Arrowleaf Estate. The grapes were gently pressed to limit extraction, and the juice was fermented dry and aged in neutral oak puncheons for seven months. After the initial aging period, the base wine was transferred to a pressure tank and inoculated with a mixture of yeast and sugar to initiate the second fermentation for carbonation. Once carbonated, the lees were stirred regularly to provide a harmonious integration of bubbles before bottling.

How it tastes: Aromas of lemon, lime, elderflower and yellow plum. On the palate it is crisp and lively, with lingering floral and lemon flavours. This is the perfect wine for an outdoor lunch, as an aperitif, or for a celebration at any time.
