Summerstorm is a unique rosé sparkling wine made from Zweigelt grapes using the Charmat method (méthode cuvée close).

When it was grown
The story of the 2022 growing season started with a blast of arctic air in late December 2021. The cold weather damaged some buds on the vines, reducing their potential yields. The spring was cool and damp, which delayed budbreak and suggested it was going to be a short growing season. Summer was hot and dry but the highlight of the growing season was the fall, which felt more like an extension of summer. It was a phenomenal stretch of warm and dry weather that lasted through most of October. The extended season coupled with low yields produced grapes of excellent quality. 

How it was made
Zweigelt from our estate vineyard was picked when the grapes had low potential alcohol and prominent acidity. Gentle, whole cluster pressing was used to extract a small amount of colour. The base wine was fermented dry and aged in neutral oak puncheons for 6 months. After the initial aging period, the wine was transferred to a pressure tank and inoculated with yeast and sugar to initiate the secondary fermentation. The lees in the tank were stirred regularly to provide more harmonious integration of the bubbles. The wine was filtered and a dosage was added for the desired sweetness before bottling.

How it tastes
Clean and fresh with aromas of pink grapefruit, rhubarb, yellow plum and lilac. On the palate the brut level sweetness provides a cushion for the nervy acidity and the finely integrated bubbles add length to the finish. It’s a sparkling wine ideal for a summer celebration.  🌱 Vegan Wine
